a-cornucopia-of-mythology: Dryads are tree-nymphs, especially the spirits of oaks. The greek word δρῦς (Drys) literally means oak. So the term “Dryads” was originally used just for the oak-nymphs. Later all kinds of tree-nymphs were called “Dryads”.
